The Senator Representing Abia Central At the National Assembly And Former Abia State Governor Senator Theodore Orji today Drew the attention of the Nigerian Senate to the Pipeline Explosion that occurred Last week in Osisioma Abia State.
The Senator who had ealier Visited the Scene Said Despite the Complaints by the Community, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have failed to Secure the Pipes carrying Fuel in.
Senator Theodore Orji cited order 42 & 52 and spoke on the pipeline explosion in Abia State due to the negligence of duty by NNPC staff that led to the loss of 150 lives. The villagers had gone to scoop oil from the leakage as a means of livelihood when the explosion occurred.
The Senate President Bukola Saraki urged the Commitee to do a thorough Investigation over the Explosion.
“As we go into the prayers to look into how we can truly come up with resolutions, we need to show that lives do matter in this country and make this a very good example of that, I say this to those committees we’ve referred this to,…”- Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

“Those who will finally agree to look into this matter should treat it with the seriousness that it deserves. The Committee on Petroleum Resources and Police Affairs should perform a proper investigation and recommendation.”- Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

Senate resolved to:
1. Order NEMA to send relief materials to the affected individuals.
2. Order depots to commence immediate repairs of the leakages.
3. Refer to the Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream for proper investigation and recommendation.
4. Observe a minute silence for the repose of souls.
5. Senate should send a delegation to the Abia State Government and the community.
