Abia state government is set to launch a new taxi scheme for Umuahia capital city

This was revealed by Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, during the swearing in of Chief Kingsley Imaga as the new Commissioner for Transport in the state.

Governor Ikpeazu said that Taxi scheme is expected to take off with 100 vehicles equipped with a home designed computer application that will enable commuters book taxis from the comfort of their homes.

Addressing the new commissioner after his swearing in at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House Umuahia, the Governor urged him to bring his ingenuity to bear in repositioning the ministry and called on him to focus on innovation and technology to deliver a better Transport system to the people of the state as well as develop modern parks in the urban centers of the state.

He stated that transport is a powerful enabler that can drive economic development, adding that he would not want the state to go back to the era of licensing motor parks in Aba and Umuahia with the attendant turmoil it brings reiterating that the Ministry of Transport is not synonymous with motor parks and touts.

Governor Ikpeazu congratulated Chief Imaga on his new position and plead for his collaboration with other ministries.

In his response, Chief Kingsley Imaga thanked the Governor for finding him worthy to serve and promised to live up to expectation.

Chief Imaga who is from Ohafia local government area of Abia State replaces Rt Hon. Chinedu Elechi who resigned to contest for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
