I Knew Ciara Was Sampling My Record – Tiwa Savage Says

Tiwa Savage says she knew about Ciara’s intentions to sample her beat – Ciara had come under fire on social media after Nigerians accused her of sampling a beat that she didn’t get permission for.

The American pop star had released a song titled Freak me featuring Tekno Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has finally addressed the matter of American pop star Ciara sampling her beat without get permission.

The singer revealed that she had known about Ciara’s intentions. NAIJ.com had reported that Ciara had come under fire after she released her single Freak Me. Nigerians had claimed that the song, in which she featured Tekno, is one she used a beat she wasn’t approved to use.

However, Tiwa Savage who is the owner of the original beat in which she used for her song Before Nko, has revealed that she knew that the American pop star intended to use her beat in a song.

In an interview with Capital Xtra’s Tim Westwood, Savage revealed that her representatives spoke to Ciara’s team and they reached an understanding. According to her, Freak Me was a pleasant surprise to her. She noted that it was an honour for her beat to be used by Ciara.

She said: “Her people had spoken to my people but I didn’t hear the final product until it came out but it was a pleasant surprise. Big shout out to her.” Savage also talked about her upcoming collaboration with Coldplay.

She said: “They have a record with Stargate and it kinda has like an Afrobeat influence in it and I already worked with Stargate on a couple of records, so they wanted a female vocal on it, so here I am. When I was in the studio with Chris Martin, he was so cool. I was so nervous. He made it so easy.”

Talking about her single Lova Lova with Duncan Mighty: “I knew it was a big record when I recorded it. I think it’s all over the world actually. I have heard other female acts from America, the UK talk about how hard it is. I think it’s a lot easier to accept male artist’s songs. On radio, it gets played quicker. Sometimes, I feel like some records when I have male artistes on it, is accepted a lot quicker.”
