Members of the Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano, who are staunch supporters of Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, have declared that nothing will stop the former governor’s visit to the State next week.

Kano Police Command had advised Senator Kwankwaso to shelve the trip.

There are fears that the visit may lead to bloody clashes between members of Kwankwasiyya (supporters of Kwankwaso) and Gandujiyya (Governor Ganduje’s supporters).

Ganduje was Kwankwaso’s deputy for eight years but the duo fell apart shortly after the 2015 elections.

Addressing journalists at the Bompai police headquarters in Kano, Police Commissioner, Rabiu Yusuf, warned that failure to comply with the warning might attract “stiffer implication”.

Kwankwaso and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under Ganduje leadership are set to hold parallel political rallies on January 30.

The commissioner, however, explained that intelligence showed that Kwankwaso’s rally could be hijacked by “miscreants”.

Yusuf urged the him to consider postponing his trip “until the tension generated is down”.

But Kwankwasiyya movement told journalists at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat on Saturday, that Kwankwaso will visit the state despite the advice by the Police Commissioner.

Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabi’u Bichi alleged that the Nigeria Police in Kano had been compromised by the government of incumbent Abdullahi Ganduje.

“Our leader will visit Kano on January 30 and nothing will happen. But in case of any eventuality, the CP should be held responsible.

“Senator Kwankwaso had fixed his event before the APC in Kano fixed same date so we advise the police to do their job”, Bichi said.
