A member of the Senate representing Rivers South, Magnus Abe, on Thursday alleged that the high level of insecurity in Rivers State under Governor Nyesom Wike was now making people of the state to seek refuge in Abuja.
Abe said this while hosting leaders of various legislative assemblies in the state at his office in Abuja.
The lawmaker vowed that the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State would not dump President Muhammadu Buhari, while calling on warring sides in the state chapter of the party to embrace peace.
“Port Harcourt is so unsafe. So, people are coming to Abuja,” Abe said.
The lawmaker added, “What is important to us as members of the APC is that we must work together to see that we give Rivers State a fresh breath of life. Today, why are people saying all Rivers people are politicians? It is because you cannot do any business in Rivers; even people who have properties in the state cannot let them out and they are vacant.
“Those who used to sell land and get interests before cannot sell in ages. This is because the growth that should stimulate prosperity in the state is not there. Enrolment in schools is dropping all across the state. And these are being fuelled by insecurity and lack of clarity in the programmes of the present government.”
Abe also called on the National Judicial Council to intervene in the prolonged local government election case pending in a court in Rivers.
