Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has stated that the immediate past governor of the state, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has formed a new cult group with the aim of creating security crisis in the state.
Wike made this allegation on Monday during the inauguration of the Kpopie-Bodo Road in the Gokana Local Government Area as part of the activities to commemorate the second anniversary of his administration.
Reacting through his media office, however, Amaechi described Wike’s allegation as false and one of the numerous blatant lies against him (Amaechi).
Amaechi, however, challenged the governor to go to court to prove his claims and stop fabricating falsehood against him.
Wike had further alleged that the new cult group formed by the ex-governor had been christened New Rivers Cult Group.
He called security agencies to caution Amaechi even as he added that the new cult group would be resisted by the law-abiding people of the state.
Wike stated that the former governor inaugurated the cult group at a private residence in the Woji area of Port Harcourt – after which he distributed N500,000 to each of the 23 local government areas of the state.
He explained that the new cult group had two coordinators, Messrs Ojukaye Flag Amachree and Orji Ngofa, adding that the duo had been mobilised by the former governor.
According to him, “Let me alert Nigerians. I am only informing Nigerians and security agencies of the crime against Rivers State by the immediate past governor.
“We have successfully concluded the state amnesty programme for cultists in the state, but the former governor has set up another cult group.”
Wike further stated that Amaechi had assured the members of the new cult group that they would enjoy security protection, adding that the new cult group members had been armed for the 2019 general election.
“I am shouting for the security agencies to hear us. Let heavens hear us. Let nobody allow his son to be used. No amount of cult recruitment can intimidate us. I am calling on security agencies to caution the former governor,” he stressed.
Amaechi, however, pointed out that the allegation on cultism fitted into Wike’s style of distraction, confusion and deception.
“Yesterday, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, continued to display unabated, his exclusive strand of governorship ‘madness’ when he attempted to link his mentor, benefactor and predecessor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as a sponsor of cultists in Rivers State. And as usual, Wike did not provide any shred of evidence to prove his claims.
“Again, Wike’s new cult fabrication against Amaechi fits into Wike’s style and pattern of distraction and obfuscation – tell a lie to distract, and then tell another lie and another lie to distract our attention from the previous lie, creating an endless web of lies, confusion and deception.
“Wike wants us to forget that only recently, he made an allegation that the over $43m found in an Ikoyi apartment by the EFCC was stolen Rivers State funds kept in the apartment by Amaechi. Wike had also lied that the luxury Ikoyi apartment belonged to Amaechi.
“Wike ought to know by now that no one takes him seriously anymore, especially whenever he makes those cooked-up vile, malicious allegations against the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
“This new concocted story is not any different from the previous numerous false allegations he has made against Amaechi,” the statement from Amaechi’s media office added.
Also, Ngofa, who is a former national deputy secretary of the APC, urged Wike to face governance and leave politics, adding that he had been in Abuja for some weeks and wondered why the governor would make such an allegation.
Ngofa, who said he was among the ambassadors-designate, described the allegation against him, Amaechi and Amachree as false even as he challenged the governor to prove his claim.
