The Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Benin has admitted no fewer than 989 voter registers as evidence submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in their substantive petition.
Ize-Iyamu and the PDP, both first and second petitioners respectively, are challenging the declaration of Godwin Obaseki as winner of the September 28 poll.
At the resumption of hearing on Friday, counsel for the petitioners, Roland Otaru, tendered the certified true copies of the voter register for polling units within 74 wards of seven local government areas of the state.
The affected local government areas are Etsako Central, Etsako East, Ovia South-West, Ovia North-East, Owan East, Esan Central and Ikpoba-Okha.
The documents were marked as exhibits by the Justice Ahmed Badamasi-led panel, after they were verified by counsel to the INEC, Adegboyega Awomolo, as well as those of Obaseki and the All Progressives Congress – Ken Mozia and Adeniyi Akintola.
The tribunal had last week admitted the voter registers for five local government areas, including Akoko-Edo, Egor and Igueben.
It had also received the for EC8As (result sheets) for the 18 LGAs.
As at he time of filing the report, the submission of the registers for 12, out of the 18 local government areas, had been completed before the tribunal was adjourned for a break.
