THE Pan – Yoruba socio-Political Organisation, Afenifere, yesterday, described as arbitrary, wrong and unjust the substitution of the PDP Governorship Candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN by the INEC.

Afenifere Chairman, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, said in Akure that the whole process appeared set for manipulation, warning that the consequences might be undesirable. Fasoranti said: “The INEC decision was wrong. It is arbitrary. There is no basis for it. Ibrahim went to hold his primary in Ibadan and not here.

That is not fair. If he wants to be sincere and honest, the thing should be held here. “I am bold enough to say that. So the process is set for manipulation. And in any case, Jegede is the choice of the people. Certainly, this is not an issue of party affiliation.”

His primary was held here.” We watched it on television. It will be better if the government reverses its own decision in the interest of peace to allow the people to decide on the person they want.” Fasoranti advised the Federal Government, the electoral body, all political parties, politicians and Nigerians generally “to recollect how a similar incident in 1983 in the same Ondo State snowballed into an unmanageable political crisis which engulfed the whole country and truncated the Second Republic.

Also, another chieftain of the group and a former commissioner in the state Chief Segun Adegoke described the INEC decision as a “fraud,” which portends great ill for the health and survival of the nation’s fledgling democracy.
