While the state APC accused the Governor Nyesom Wike, the ruling PDP threatened to press charges against the chairman of the main opposition party in the state, Dr. Davies Ikanya.
It will be recalled that Neenwi was shot dead on Monday at a junction in Nonwa, Tai LGA, while trying to board a bus to Port Harcourt at about 8pm.
Ikanya had, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, explained that Neenwi was until his assassination a critic of the governor and a former militant leader in Gokana, Solomon Ndigbara.
He alleged that Neenwi’s murder has similar imprints with how another APC chieftain and ally of Senator Magnus Abe, late Dr. Vincent Eebee, was murdered six months ago.
“We call on the security agencies to leave no stone unturned to ensure that all those who have a hand in the killing of Hon. Boris Neenwi and the young people who were gruesomely killed alongside him are apprehended and made to face justice.
“This is yet another senseless killing that must not be swept under the carpet, as has become the pattern in Rivers State, especially when APC members are the victims,” Ikanya said.
Reacting, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, described Ikanya’s allegation as highly irresponsible and seditious.
Nwanosike said the state PDP would drag Ikanya to court in order to serve as deterrent to any person who might want to accuse or ridicule the governor in future.
“The statement from Ikanya is highly irresponsible and seditious and aimed at causing the breakdown of law and order in the state. The Rivers State PDP will take every necessary step to take legal action against Davies Ikanya.
“The security agents should carry out a thorough investigation of the death of these Rivers citizens and make it public so that unnecessary accusations will end,” he added.
