The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated the Bayelsa state governor-elect, Seriaki Dickson, over his victory at the just concluded election in the state even as the party technically abandoned his candidate, Timipre Silva.
The party also congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, APC for the free hands given to the electoral empire to conduct free and fair election in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Monday, Deputy Publicity Secretary of APC, Comrade Timi Frank, said he had forewarned his party that if urgent measures were not taken, the party would suffer defeat and it did.
“Times without number I have said it that the Bayelsa APC has issues. Issues that were not attended to and I have been shouting a long time ago that if we do not resolve our issues and we go into this election, we will loose Bayelsa but nobody listened to me.
“I cried and spoke to some of our leaders about the issue and importance of reconciliation but the man in question and former governor of Bayelsa, Timi Priye Silva who was also our candidate, failed to listen, thinking he could do it all alone but this is the result.
“he thought he could do all alone and I made it clear to Nigerians when I granted interview that with Silva, we would loose the election and i still stand on that position and the results have played out.”
While congratulating the president Muhammadu Buhari for creating the enabling environment for free and fair elections in the state and Governor Dickson including the PDP for their victory at the polls, he advised that they should also be able to accept defeat magnanimously like the APC in Bayelsa.
” let me use this medium to congratulate president Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Serieke Dickson and the PDP. This is not a victory for them alone but for the entire Bayelsans. Through the current president, Bayelsa has been able to enjoy free and fair elections through a proper democratic process of electing their choice.
” let me sound this as a warning, in future elections, if PDP happens to loose, they should be able to accept defeat. They should not point accusing fingers at the president or the APC by crying foul that the party has rigged the election. What has happened is a clear testament to the fact that APC is not a desperate party and can accommodate people to vote the person of their choice ” he said
