The governor-elect in Benue state, Chief Samuel Ortom of the All Progressives Party (APC) on Monday visited Governor Gabriel Suswam at Government House Makurdi, barely six hours after Ortom was declared winner.
They agreed to throw behind their disagreements.
Ortom was accompanied by his deputy, Chief Benson Abounu with other prominent elders and supporters of the APC. Suswam and Ortom warmly hugged each other and exchanged jokes over the victory.
Explaining the what informed the visit, Ortom said he came to appreciate Suswam and Tarzoor, as well as the people of state for a peaceful conduct of the poll which declared him winner.
According to Ortom, “I am very humbled by the humility and sportsmanship for the governor and Tarzoor to call me by telephone to congratulate me for my victory. This will chart a way forward for a new Benue to reconcile aggrieved parties to enhance unity for the rapid development of the state.
Responding, Governor Suswam described the disposition of the governor-elect as godly and humane, saying the development would subside the misgivings, misconceptions and rumors that are being peddled about their alleged disagreeable relationship.
