President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.),  on Tuesday promised to ensure that next Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers, Imo and Edo states are not marred by irregularities or attempts to steal the mandates given to candidates of the All Progressives Congress.

Buhari made this known during a Town hall meeting with supporters of the APC at the International Conference Centre in Owerri. the state capital.

Acknowledging the role played by party supporters in the three states, the President-elect said, “The vote of the people is their strength and if the peoples vote is allowed to count in any election, they will vote out anybody that fails to meet their expectations.”

He extolled the uncommon courage displayed by voters in Rivers, Imo and Edo, as well as their commitment to the process that had brought the desired change in the leadership of the country at the national level.

Also, responding to a request by his host, Governor Rochas Okorocha, who spoke earlier, Buhari promised to give Ndigbo a level playing ground when his administration comes on board from May 29.

He, however reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption and to easing the pain inflicted on Nigerians by the present depression in the economy.

Earlier, Okorocha appealed to the President-elect to consider the plight of the average Igbo man, whom he described as severely traumatised and marginalised.

Noting that many people from the South-East had never known where the sun us shining from, Okorocha asked Buhari to address the insurgency in the North-East urgently so that Ndigbo, who were displaced in the region would be resettled.
